Prof. Kiyoshi Saito received the Minister of Education Award (Science and Technology Award Research Division)

Achievement name: Research on unified analysis theory of thermal system from the viewpoint of circuit theory

In order to realize carbon neutrality, there is an urgent need to systematize the thermal design and control to realize significant energy saving of the thermal system, but it is necessary to perform complicated analysis of thermo-fluid phenomena, which requires a lot of labor and time. It was required to establish a rational analysis method. In this research, we have established an innovative theoretical analysis method that introduces a circuit theory perspective as system engineering thinking into the basic analysis of thermal systems based on fluid mechanics and non-equilibrium thermodynamics.

This research not only enables theoretical analysis from a single thermal system to a large-scale system group, but also embodies it as a simulator and supports innovative system development centered on heat pump systems without advanced mathematical knowledge. This result enables not only the analysis of thermal systems but also the analysis of energy systems including different energy systems by clarifying the mutual conversion structure of heat, electricity, and power energy systems.

As a result, as a system analysis theory that can be common to energy transformation engineering, it can be effectively used for the construction of energy management systems and digital twin technologies that are required to be realized immediately in the future, which greatly contributes to the realization of carbon neutrality.
